Bangladesh: A Remarkable Development Success Story

Bangladesh has emerged as a true role model for developing nations, demonstrating how strategic planning and consistent effort can drive sustainable growth.

Today, Bangladesh hosts over 300 state-of-the-art pharmaceutical companies, fulfilling 97% of its domestic medicine demand and exporting pharmaceutical products to more than 70 countries worldwide.

The country’s impressive progress has been officially recognized by the United Nations, which described Bangladesh as a “remarkable development success story.”
According to an IMF report, Bangladesh ranked among the top three countries globally in terms of sustained economic growth up to 2021.

Bangladesh’s foreign exchange reserves have risen dramatically to around USD 47 billion, compared to almost negligible reserves in earlier decades. By effectively utilizing its skilled manpower, the country has achieved middle-income status, with a per-capita GDP of approximately USD 2,554.

Bangladeshis are contributing globally, holding prestigious positions around the world. In 2021 alone, remittances from overseas workers reached a record USD 21 billion, playing a vital role in strengthening the national economy.

After successfully achieving Vision 2021, Bangladesh is now working toward Vision 2041, aiming to secure its place among the world’s developed nations.

In the education sector, the government provides free textbooks, distributing nearly 400 million copies annually. The primary school enrollment rate stands at an impressive 98%, and the number of universities has grown to around 170, reflecting a strong commitment to human capital development.
